Hog Heaven Hoagie

Recipe developed by The Clever Cleaver Brothers® and featured on their Summer TV Tour, 2006

 

Makes 4 sandwiches

 

   1 package Johnsonville® Brats Original Bratwurst, cooked and sliced

1/2 pound 31-40-size shrimp, shell completely removed

   2 tablespoons olive oil

   4 cloves minced garlic

   1 teaspoon minced jalapeno pepper

1/2 cup thinly sliced onions

1/2 cup thinly sliced portabella mushrooms

1/2 cup shredded carrot

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/8 teaspoon black pepper

   2 tablespoons fresh chopped cilantro

   8 Mt. Olive® Zesty Kosher Sandwich Stuffers

 

Slaw

 

   2 cups shredded green cabbage

   1 cup shredded red cabbage

 

Dressing

 

1/4 cup rice wine vinegar

   2 tablespoons boysenberry syrup

   2 teaspoons Cholula® Hot Sauce

   2 teaspoons sesame seed oil

   1 tablespoon grated ginger

  • Preheat the grill to medium. Remove the brats from the package to the grill and cook for 25 to 30 minutes until golden brown. Remove brats from the grill, let cool and cut into ½-inch slices.

  • Heat a large sauté pan over med-high heat. Add oil, garlic and jalapenos and heat for 30 seconds.

  • Add the shrimp and cook for 1 minute on each side. Add onions, mushrooms and carrots and sauté for 2 minutes.

  • While the mixture is cooking, make the slaw. In a large bowl combine all the dressing ingredients. Add the red and green cabbage and toss with the dressing. 

  • Back to the sauté pan. Add salt, pepper and cilantro and combine. Now, drain the dressing from the slaw into the sauté pan to deglaze. Combine and remove from the heat.

  • To build the hoagie, cut the rolls in half but not all the way through. On the bottom of each roll, place two Mt. Olive® Zesty Kosher Sandwich Stuffers, some slaw and top with the sauté mixture. Enjoy!
