The Perfect Gherkin
We have mastered pickling cucumbers and gherkins. We use cucumbers to make our dill pickles, bread and butter pickles and other dills but for our Sweet Gherkins we stay true to form and make the best ready to eat Sweet Gherkins with real gherkins.
We pack every jar with our time honored Sweet Gherkin pickle recipe. You find teaspoons of turmeric, crushed red pepper, garlic clove, white vinegar, pickling spice, celery seed, peppercorn, granulated sugar and other pickling spice floating around in the jar.
The fresh gherkins are submerged and let for fermenting until they absorb all the flavors but keep their crunch. At Mt. Olive you just won’t find a mushy pickle.
At Mt. Olive we became famous thanks to our Kosher Dill Pickle recipe but we know that different folks have different tastes and sometimes you want a different kind of flavor accompaniment. We expanded our line many moons ago and continued to do so to make sure we could please every palette.
Sweet Gherkins are more sweet than tang. They were a natural progression from their cousin bread and butter pickle. Gherkins it is rumored got their start in the UK, where almost every pickle regardless of its flavor or size is called a Gherkin.
The main trait that determines that a pickle is in fact a gherkin in the US is that a small gherkin is used in the recipe and of course, that deliciously sweet taste. Our Sweet Gherkin is a whole gherkin which is a snackable size, making it perfect for slicing for a sandwich, dicing for salads and of course eating straight from the jar.
