Ingredients

Spicy basil aioli (recipe follows)
2 thick slices sourdough or Italian bread
4 oz fresh mozzarella cheese
1 large tomato, thinly sliced
4-6 slices salami
4-5 leaves fresh basil
3-4 Tbsp Mt. Olive Italian Jalapenos, drained
2 whole Mt. Olive Italian Pepperoncini, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Smear a thin layer of spicy basil aioli on the inside of each piece of bread.
  2. Build your sandwich by layering cheese, salami, basil leaves and jalapeno slices.
  3. Butter the outside of the bread liberally then griddle sandwich in a panini press or in a grill pan over medium heat, until golden brown and crispy on the outside, about 5-6 minutes per side
  4. Garnish with whole pepperoncini.
  5. TO MAKE THE SPICY BASIL AIOLI:
  6. ½ cup mayonnaise
  7. ¼ cup brine from a jar of Mt Olive Italian Jalapenos
  8. 4-5 leaves basil
  9. Combine all ingredients in a blender or food processor and blend until smooth.
