Sweet Baby Rae: A Pickle-Loving Baby

Photographer Jessie Edwards has always had a passion for taking pictures. She first started her photography hobby with a focus in film photography, but then after having kids and becoming a stay-at-home mom, Edwards decided to take some classes in digital photography. She really loved it, and she began shooting photo sessions for friends in the community. Through word of mouth, her business grew, and by 2015 she officially established her photography business, Jess Edwards Photography.

Jess Edwards has shot real estate photography as well as photography for the National Guard Public Affairs, but she mostly specializes in family shoots and milestones for children, such as first birthdays. The traditional first birthday photo session usually includes a “Cake Smash,” which is where the 1-year-old baby is given a cake, and a photographer snaps photos as the baby smashes into it and eats it! It’s a messy but adorable tradition.

Edwards’ met her friend Miranda while living in Kansas, and Miranda asked her to shoot a very special “cake smash” photo session for her daughter, Raelyn. Miranda’s daughter, Rae, LOVED pickles so much during her first year. They fed her tons of pickles, and she especially loved munching on the large whole Kosher Dills.

Baby Rae’s nickname was “Sweet Baby Rae.” Her mom Miranda came up with the brilliant idea of doing a BBQ Rib Smash instead of a regular cake smash for her first birthday photo session. Edwards agreed to shoot this special photo session, and we can see here that the unique photos turned out to be absolutely adorable!

Miranda gathered all of the props, and met up with Edwards at Wildcat Creek in Manhattan, Kansas for this special milestone birthday photo shoot. The shoot featured all the fixins needed for a perfect picnic or cookout: BBQ ribs, cornbread, pickles, watermelon, and baked beans! All Sweet Baby Rae needed to do was chow down and enjoy herself!

“The shoot turned out even better than I thought it would! It was so much fun, and Rae loved getting messy!” Miranda said.

Both Edwards and Miranda choose Mt. Olive Pickles as their go-to pickle brand. They grew up eating them, and now their own families love them too. Both families currently live in North Carolina near Fort Bragg, as their husbands are active duty, and Jess is in the Guard. We thank both families for the sacrifices they make to serve our country!

If you are in the Fayetteville area, make sure you reach out to Jess Edwards for your next family photo session.
